Street thief Aladdin (Mena Massoud) loves to roam the streets of Agrabah with his monkey Abu. No item, no matter how valuable it looks, is safe from him in the city’s bazaars. But he would like to leave this life as a small-time crook behind him, as he is firmly convinced that he is destined for something greater. One day during his forays, he meets Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott). In order to be able to move around in public without being recognized, the princess disguises herself and thus has the opportunity to make contact with the inhabitants of her city. After Aladdin falls madly in love with her, he does everything in his power to see her again – and it’s not that easy. He is eventually caught trying to scale the walls of her palace and ends up in prison without further ado. This is when the shady Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) appears on the scene. He offers to free Aladdin if he steals the famous magic lamp from a legendary cave in return. But the Grand Vizier has no intention of keeping his promise. He only wants to get his hands on the lamp so that it will give him the power he needs to seize the land and rule it as its sole ruler.
